The information in this database is extracted from the Mormon Church's International Genealogical Index, commonly referred to as the IGI. It includes only christening (or birth) and marriage data from the United Kingdom. For a more complete database, by all means consult the official IGI at the Church's web site. Please be aware that some fo the records are filmed from original sources and others are patron submissions and therefore of more questionable value.

The intent here is to make it easier to find your Thornicroft (or similar spelling) ancestors in the UK. The information is stored in a 3.5 Mb Microsoft Access 2000 database which you can download for your own use, and also in an SQL database that is used in these query pages. Please keep in mind that the MDB will be of no use to you at all unless you have Access 2000 (or better) and have some idea how to use it.

If you do not want to download and work with the MDB on your own PC directly, I have provided two web-based forms that you can use to search through the Christenings and the Marriages. There are 2478 birth, baptism and christening records dated from 1300 to 1894, and 1176 marriage records dated from 1564 to 1896. You will find lots of records that appear to be duplicates, but that's the way it came off their web site!

Please be aware that this web search function is running on my home PC, and that therefore it may not be operational all the time and it may get a little over-loaded if too many people are running searches on it at the same time. Be patient and try again.
